Managing an Inclusive Classroom
Required course
This course is designed to teach future teachers to create engaged, connected and effective classroom communities. Proactive strategies from the basic (routines, rules, attention, consistency) to the instructional (pacing, engagement, feedback) are taught. Students learn to use a problem-solving approach with an emphasis on using observation, interaction, progress monitoring to address challenging behaviors while improving students’ social, emotional, and self regulation skills. The basics of pre-referral intervention, instructional support teams, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and effective management of paraprofessionals in the classroom for behavior management are covered.
Differentiated Instruction

This course focuses on designing and implementing instruction that meets the diverse needs of learners in inclusive classrooms. Emphasizes adapting content, process, and assessment to support students with varied abilities and backgrounds
