As the Arcadia community anticipates the completion of the 62,000-square-foot University Commons student center, there is already reason to celebrate. The new two-story, 19-office east-end expansion of the existing Kuch Center is now open, and several offices are occupied by the Athletics Department.

“The new addition is wonderful,” says Shirley Liddle, Director of Athletics amd Recreation. “We moved in the week of Jan 24. The offices are very nice. All have a window, and the design is very functional. It is so good to have everyone on the same floor and adjacent to each other. The impact on departmental interactions is very positive as everyone is in close proximity.”

Liddle's former office will be demolished to make way for contruction of the new fitness center that is part of the student center project.

Now that the offices are complete, the construction firm is focusing on the University Commons addition to the front of Kuch Athletic and Recreation Center facing Kuch Field, which will include new lounges, dining areas, meeting rooms, an enlarged and modernized fitness center and more.

“Work continues on the interior infrastructure build-outs,” says Tom Macchi, Associate Vice President of Facilities and Capital Planning. “Electrical, plumbing and additional temporary roofing are being completed at this time. In addition, final designs on two locker rooms as well as the new food service and convenience store areas will be completed this week.”
