Kathryn Duffy, Disability Services Coordinator, recently joined Arcadia University’s Office of Academic Development, becoming a "quiet and steady" advocate for students with disabilities.
Duffy brings with her more than 15 years of experience working in the field of education and disability support services. She comes to Arcadia from Community College of Philadelphia’s Center on Disability where she was the Coordinator of Disability Resources. Previous to her position at CCP, she was a Clinical Case Manager and Brain Injury Therapist at Moss Rehabilitation Hospital.
“Along with Andrea Coren, Disability Specialist, ‘Duffy,’ as everyone calls her, works with students with disabilities to assess and arrange their accommodations,” says Linda Pizzi, Director of Academic Development. “She also coordinates all of the technological aspects of meeting the needs of students with disabilities, working with IT and the Library. The expertise with assistive technology she has brought with her has proven to be an enormous asset to the University as well as to our students. Her former supervisor commended her ability to 'think outside the box,' which is a tremendous quality to possess, especially when it comes to working with students with disabilities. We appreciate this in addition to her relaxed demeanor, which has not in any way undermined her quiet and steady determination to advocate for her students.”
Eventually, Duffy’s position will entail coordinating a Disability Compliance Committee with Pizzi to assure ADA compliance for the University.
Duffy’s educational background includes a Bachelor’s in English and Communication from LaSalle University. Also, she studied Media Technology at American University before moving into the social work field. She earned an M.S.W. at the University of Pennsylvania and later earned an M.A. from LaSalle in Education. In addition, Duffy has served as a Visiting Lecturer at Pennsylvania State University (Abington, Pa.) and Instructor at Community College of Philadelphia, and Manor College (Jenkintown, Pa.).
