Poet and book artist Monica A. Hand ’75 will give two readings from me and Nina (Alice James Books, 2012), an intimate conversation with the "High Priestess of Soul," this weekend in Philadelphia. She is appearing at the Big Blue Marble Bookstore on Friday, March 30, at 7 p.m. and Musehouse: A Center for the Literary Arts on Saturday, March 31, at 7 p.m. Hand returned to campus as part of Arcadia University's celebration of Black History Month in February 2012 to share her story and read from her book me and Nina. Read more about Hand’s experiences as a Beaver College student. me and Nina received a 2010 Kinereth Gensler Award before it was published by Alice James Books in February. Hand’s poems have appeared in numerous publications including Naugatuck River Review, The Sow’s Ear, Drunken Boat, and Gathering Ground: A Reader Celebrating Cave Canem’s First Decade. She earned an M.F.A. in Poetry and Poetry in Translation from Drew University and is a founding member of Poets for Ayiti. Read more about her book.
