Tennis Pro Provides Advice for Young Athletes

Mary Lou Cardie ’99M recently published an article, "Value the Fundamentals," on, which focuses on helping young athletes reach their full potential. Cardie, who is a USPTA Certified P1 Tennis Teaching Professional, earned a Master’s of Education degree from Arcadia in 1999.

If your child exhibits athletic ability and is honing in on a particular sport as their "main sport", it is critical that your young athlete develop sound fundamentals of technique in that sport. Whether it be ball handling and shooting technique in basketball, stroke production in tennis, kicking technique in soccer, swing technique in golf, batting or pitching technique in baseball or softball, and so on; early development of the proper fundamentals is essential to a child being able to maximize his ability and performance as he matures.
