The Arcadia community is invited to attend a reception on Thursday, March 20, at 6 p.m. for the opening of Писанки: Ще не вмерла Українa (Pysanky: Ukraine Has Not Yet Died), an art exhibition that runs through March 27 in the Judith Taylor Art Gallery in the basement of Landman Library.
The exhibition showcases artwork by Nadia Koltsoon ’14, a studio art and art history student who was born in Lviv, Ukraine and came to the states when she was four. In response to the turmoil and unrest in her home country, Koltsoon hand painted and glazed porcelain eggs, using a Ukrainian tradition that can be traced back to the third millennium B.C. Through the exhibition, Koltsoon aims to bring awareness to the violence in Ukraine and shed light on the citizens’ dangerous situation, which has reached a breaking point after a long history of political strife.
