Noakes to NewsWorks: Keep Riot Police Away from Front Lines

Dr. John Noakes, associate provost for faculty advancement and student learning, was quoted in a May 5 NewsWorks article on the Philly Is Baltimore protest. Noakes spoke on police response to protestors in light of the Center City march on April 30 and the recent protests in Baltimore.

Cops in riot gear and armored vehicles and military-style equipment raises the level of tension. Ceding the streets to protesters, letting them march peacefully, and not having riot gear officers up front are the best ways to keep the peace.
