Dr. Samer Abboud, associate professor of international studies, spoke on the Oct. 12 episode of WHYY-FM’s Radio Times with Marty Moss-Coane. Dr. Abboud, joined by Dr. Mitchell Orenstein of the University of Pennsylvania, discussed the crisis in Syria and Russia’s recent involvement in the Middle Eastern country.

Dr. Abboud has commented on Middle Eastern affairs for Al Jazeera, China Central Television America, and the Huffington Post. His upcoming book, Syria, is scheduled for release this month.

We’re now at the point where more than half of Syrians are either dead or displaced. The other half are living in quite terrible conditions, and I can tell you with some certainty that a majority of them would like to leave if not for the fact that...everywhere that Syrians look, they’re facing either potential death, displacement, or a life of even more uncertainty in a neighboring country.
