Dr. James M. Paradis, adjunct professor of history, published “Men of Nerve: The 5th Massachusetts Cavalry in the Civil War” in the December 2015 issue of Military Images, a magazine dedicated to the photographic history of the Civil War.

Paradis writes on the 5th Massachusetts Cavalry, one of only seven African-American cavalry regiments in the Union during the Civil War. The story contains newly published images from the regiment’s Capt. Andrew F. Chapman.

Earlier this year, Paradis was quoted in a Military Images story on one of the regiments trained at Philadelphia’s Camp William Penn.
