Jean Courtney, leader of the student voice movement in Ontario, Canada who is a retired educator in the Ministry of Education, interviewed Dr. Marc Brasof, assistant professor of Education, about a lack of student voices in school policy and how this relates to teens being uninterested in civic engagement for her podcast, “Student Voice Practitioners.”

“Where in our schools do we cultivate active citizenship?” Dr. Brasof said during the interview about a lack of civic activities in schools. “We wonder why in the United States that young people aren’t engaged in their communities. Citizenship is not a natural thing that you are born with, you have to learn it.”
