Dr. Kate Bonin, assistant professor of Modern Languages, attended the 43rd annual 19th Century French Studies Colloquium in Charlottesville, Va this November.
Dr. Bonin chaired a panel and presented “Styles of Writing, Ways of Seeing: Reading Flaubert’s ‘Un coeur simple’ Together with Sand’s ‘Les ailes de courage.’” The paper analyzed dialogue in short stories by Gustave Flaubert and George Sand within the context of the two authors’ debate on writing style, values, and the teachability of the French working classes.
