When he’s not leading Arcadia’s vocal ensembles, Adjunct Professor and University Choir Director Steven Gearhart is taking home golden gramophones.
As managing director and assistant conductor of The Crossing, a nationally recognized chamber choir specializing in new works that address social issues, Gearhart helped the ensemble snag a 2018 Grammy for Best Choral Performance.
“Gavin Bryars: The Fifth Century,” commissioned by The Crossing and PRISM Saxophone Quartet in 2014, explores the last section of English poet and theologian Thomas Traherne's Centuries of Meditations. The music and performance reflects Traherne’s intense spirituality, relationship with religion, and use of abstract nouns and images.
