Dr. Peggy Hickman, associate professor of Education, and Dr. Kathy Wirth, adjunct professor of Education and program director of the Arcadia Community Learning Center (ACLC), recently had an article accepted for the October issue of Pennsylvania Branch International Dyslexia Association’s (PBIDA) Focus magazine. The article discusses the unique attributes of the University’s Reading Specialist program.
The Reading Specialist graduate program prepares students to meet the individualized learning needs of children from diverse backgrounds, including students with dyslexia, struggles with literacy development, and English Language Learners (ELL). Additionally, the Reading Specialist program explores literary policies, evidence-based literacy instruction, and teaching English as a second language.
Additionally, graduates in the program will gain field experience through working with students from the ACLC, assessing their literary skills and developing strategic educational plans.
