Education Students, Dr. Kolb Present at English Language Development Conference

April 13, 2022 Daniel DiPrinzio

Dr. Andrea Kolb, adjunct professor of Education at Arcadia University, and Education graduate students Jacob Adams, Frances Bass, Kathleen Biddle, Allison Haughey, Rasheda Muhammad, and Devon Newman presented at the virtual Pennsylvania Department of Education English Language Development (PDE ELD) conference, held April 5-7.

Their presentation: Teachers as Researchers: critical teacher action research to advance education equity for multilingual learners encompassed each of the students’ critical teacher action research projects from the course ED622 that they attended in fall 2021.

“I have received so much positive feedback from teachers who feel inspired after hearing these presentations to take on this kind of work in their own classrooms,” said Dr. Kolb.

This year’s conference focused on reimagining equitable access for multilingual learners, and offered various sessions on instructional practices for promoting student achievement in K-12, educational data collection, analysis and use and educational policy and leadership. Sessions on strategies that foster social emotional learning and student resiliency, social justice education, and family engagement and community partnerships were also included.

Each of the students will receive a formal letter from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to recognize their accomplishments.
