Arcadia Establishes Public Relations Student Society

Chris Mullin, instructor in the Department of Media and Communication, helped establish Arcadia’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). The society has over 300 chapters nationwide, with almost 10,000 members.

Mullin, joined by Communication and Media Studies major Eric McInnis ’20 and Journalism major Samantha Glass ’21 attended a PRSSA regional conference at Temple University on March 23. Led by marketing and publication relations specialists, the sessions addressed fake news and ethics, agency and client relations, corporate social responsibility, analytics, and more.

Glass spoke with panelist and newscaster Matt O’Donnell from 6abc news following a panel discussion on “fake news” and ethics.

“The most valuable piece of advice the panelists gave was to be accurate with the information you provide to the public, rather than trying to be the first to get the story out,” said Glass. “Later, I discussed with Matt what my future life goals are in journalism, my current internship at Fox 29, and that I was applying to 6abc’s Production Internship for this summer.”

PRSSA, a pre-professional organization for students who are interested in public relations, offers a variety of scholarships, case study competitions, award programs, and leadership training to its members. Students of any major may join the University’s chapter.
