Commission on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Established

By RetterJ | September 16, 2019

In September, the President’s Commission on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) was established to conduct a comprehensive review of Arcadia’s policies, practices, and campus climate to ensure each align with the University’s Vision and Lived Values.

While the Arcadia community had been working toward a more inclusive, diverse, just, and equitable campus, JEDI is the first University-wide task force initiated to unify these efforts. Co-chaired by Professor of Education Dr. Graciela Slesaransky-Poe and Director of Strategic Initiatives Joseph Sun, the Commission will explore and develop opportunities that help Arcadia evolve into a University that reflects the world in which its community members want to live.

Comprised of a range of campus constituents, JEDI includes three student-at-large members—representing undergraduate studies, graduate students, and Arcadia’s Student Government Organization—who will serve two-year terms, gathering peer input and contributing perspectives to shape the Commission’s work.

JEDI will also host a series of guest speakers, including Dr. Kevin Kumashiro, an internationally recognized expert on educational equity and social justice. On Sept. 26 and 27, Dr. Kumashiro will visit campus to host a retreat for Commission members, a justice and inclusion seminar for faculty, and an open forum to discuss JEDI at Arcadia.
