The Department of Public Safety Sponsors National Campus Safety Awareness Month
The Department of Public Safety, in partnership with the Information Technology Department, is focusing on internet safety for National Campus Safety Awareness Month throughout September. This month-long campaign hopes to raise awareness of issues affecting campuses throughout the nation.
COVID-19 has caused education to increase the use of technology in work and lessons, and hackers and scammers have taken advantage to create convincing phishing emails. Arcadia’s Departments of Public Safety and Information Technology offers these tips to stay safe while online:
- Watch for phishing emails. If you see something suspicious or that you are unsure of, report it. Phishing emails and malicious content can be reported to the IT Help Desk (helpdesk@arcadia.edu). If you feel threatened or harassed in any way by an email, contact Public Safety.
- Make sure your device software is up-to-date, has antivirus software installed, and is password protected.
- Use strong, unique passwords for each of your online accounts (email, banking, social media, etc.).
- Only use trusted, secure wireless networks and avoid using public wireless if possible. If private wifi is not available, use mobile data or connect to a VPN when accessing sensitive information.
