A native of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, conductor and composer Steven Gearhart received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania with a focus on music history and composition. Following his undergraduate study, he worked for the Opera Company of Philadelphia for five years as artistic associate, assistant chorus master, and assistant librarian. In addition, he has worked as staff librarian for the Philadelphia Orchestra and choirmaster of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Philadelphia.
Mr. Gearhart received a master of music degree from the Yale School of Music in choral conducting in 2007. While studying at Yale, he held positions as conductor and chorus master for a number of University programs. Mr. Gearhart has served as children's chorus master of the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and he was chorus master for two productions with the Boston Lyric Opera. Mr. Gearhart is also the Managing Director and Assistant Conductor of The Crossing, a nationally-recognized new music chamber choir. He has worked with the Singing City Children's Chorus, Chorus Pro Musica, Boston, the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, and at Archbishop Ryan High School. This is Mr. Gearhart's sixth year as director of the Arcadia University Choir.
