Maternity/Parental/Adoption Leave

Revised January 28, 2019

Maternity Leave

Regular full-time employees of the University, with one year of continuous, full-time, active employment, will be entitled to receive 100% of salary for 15 working days surrounding the birth of the child. All benefits continue during this leave. Maternity leave must be requested of the immediate supervisor in writing, with a copy to the Director of Human Resources.

In cases where pregnancy is complicated by other medical conditions and requires the employee to request short term disability support, the 15 days of paid maternity leave will be counted as part of the first 20 days of short term disability support. In addition to maternity leave the employee is also entitled to three weeks paid parental leave immediately following the maternity leave. The three weeks of parental leave must be taken consecutively.

Parental Leave

To be eligible for paid adoption leave the employee must have completed at least one year of continuous, full-time, active employment. The three weeks of adoption leave must surround the adoption of the child and must be taken consecutively. All other provisions of the parental leave apply to adoption leave.
