Meet Dr. Jerry M. Greiner,
Arcadia's 19th President
Dr. Jerry M. Greiner Ready to Lead Top-Ranked Institution
Dr. Jerry M. Greiner joined top-ranked Arcadia University in July 2004. The institution, founded in 1853, continues to experience record enrollments, its College of Global Studies (formerly The Center for Education Abroad) is ranked as one of the top in the nation and the University continues to reap the benefits of its successful name change from Beaver College.
The former provost of Hamline University, a top-10 comprehensive university in Minnesota, Dr. Greiner was a practicing clinical psychologist. The Arcadia Board of Trustees named Dr. Greiner president in January after an extensive national search. He follows Dr. Bette E. Landman, who retired after serving 18 years as president and more than three decades of service to Arcadia.
Dr. Greiner joined Hamline in Saint Paul, Minn., in 1975, as an assistant professor of psychology. He became an assistant dean in 1987, and went on to hold several deanships. In 1995, Dr. Greiner was named vice president for Academic Affairs and dean of the College of Liberal Arts. As Provost, a position he held since 1999, Greiner served as the university’s chief academic officer, chief operations officer and chair of University Council. He oversaw all of the university’s schools, as well as student affairs, enrollment management, information technology, facilities and human resources.
Dr. Greiner received his bachelor of arts degree in psychology, summa cum laude from Aquinas College Grand Rapids, Mich., and his master’s and Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Cincinnati. He is the founding member of the Associated New American Colleges (ANAC), a national organization that works to highlight and advance the value of comprehensive universities, those that offer both liberal arts and professional studies, such as Arcadia.
Arcadia University, founded in 1853, is a private, coeducational comprehensive university in metropolitan Philadelphia offering undergraduate and graduate study to more than 3,400 students annually. U.S. News also ranks the University among the top colleges and universities in the North and Barron’s has named Arcadia a "best buy" for the past 12 years. Arcadia alumni take great pride in their University—with 40 percent of undergraduate alumni donating to their alma mater yearly.
