Scholarship Honors Jami Rodriguez’s Commitment To Student Life

When Jeff Ewing (former Dean of Students) and Jan Walbert (Vice President for Student Affairs) suggested we establish a scholarship honoring Jami Rodriguez ’00, we knew immediately that nothing would have pleased or honored her more,” say Jami’s parents, Avis and Manny Rodriguez. “Not only could we continue her spirit of giving, but her name and memory would be permanently tied to the school she loved.”
With Avis and Manny’s driving support, the Arcadia community established the Jami Rodriguez Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship serves as a testament to Jami’s commitment to student life and to helping the community. It also helps students who, like Jami, made a difference during their time at Arcadia.
“We love the idea of her name being carried on long after we are gone,” the Rodriguezes say. “It is our hope that the recipients will follow her lead, and keep smiling, while the world around them grows just a bit better.”
As a student, Jami loved Arcadia’s small campus and community atmosphere. She shared her passion for the University by getting involved in many student clubs and serving as a campus tour guide, orientation leader and member of the Orientation Planning Executive Committee (OPEC). As a freshman, she went on London Preview and enjoyed the experience so much that she returned to England to student teach.
“She embodied all that Arcadia University stood for at that time— bright, energetic, interested in helping others, involved in campus life, wanting to see the world and a genuinely kind and loving person,” says Ewing on Jami and why he gave to the scholarship. “It is impossible not to smile when you think about her, and supporting this fund is one way to bring those smiles back.”
