The Art of Juggling: Mastering the Balance of Multiple Tasks
Being in my second year at Arcadia, it’s become crucial to learn to balance multiple tasks at once. It’s to balance wanting to do multiple things, such as being involved in school activities, while also being able to work and support myself while being at school. I also need to complete assignments and maintain my physical and mental health.
Last year, I had a lot of trouble with doing multiple tasks and staying focused. I wasn’t able to work as much as I wanted to, and I wasn’t able to take care of my physical and mental health. I felt extremely overwhelmed, which a lot of you may also feel. So, I would like to explain how I was able to improve my habits and handle more responsibilities at any given time.
I am currently a sophomore at Arcadia, and I’m a double major in Psychology and Criminal Justice, while also pursuing a Law and Public Policy minor. I’m also a member of the Honors program, a student ambassador, a Because Arcadia blogger, part of the Student Government Organization (SGO), and I currently work at Chipotle. With all these different tasks, I’ve come to realize that time management is one of the most important skills to have when it comes to balancing tasks. So, I work two to three days a week from 4-11 p.m., and by doing this, I have to make sure to do my school work on the days that I do not work. By setting up my schedule like this, I’m able to stay on top of my work while also not feeling overwhelmed or disengaged when I’m working.
I also wake up early before my classes so that I have enough time to go to the gym each morning. I feel as though going to the gym allows me to have a positive outlook on my day. I make sure to have all my homework done before the weekend because I’ve decided not to work on the weekend. This allows my weekends to be completely free, which helps me unwind and focus on myself. By doing this, I never feel like my mental health is slipping away from me, which is key in college. It’s also important to surround yourself with people who motivate and support you when you have so many things to balance. It’s important as we become young adults to know how to multitask while keeping ourselves safe and healthy. By developing a variety of these skills, I have been able to feel a lot calmer and more in tune with myself. So far, the school year has been going very well, and I believe I will continue to be extraordinary with the skills I have learned.
