Surviving Winter in Style: Your Guide to Essential Cold-Weather Apparel
Being at a university in Pennsylvania, it became very cold, very fast. With the temperatures rapidly decreasing and the wind picking up, I came to realize how cold I truly was. Arcadia University is a beautiful place to be, but the winters come with a cold climate, so we must adapt to this weather.
Something I feel that has become crucial on these extremely cold days has been a winter coat. I have realized that many students on campus do not wear coats, which causes them to get sick, and on a college campus, sickness can spread pretty often. However, wearing a winter coat or jacket can prevent these types of sickness in plenty of ways. Although a coat may not be the style we want to wear and may be very big and puffy, it will keep us extremely warm and less sick in the long run.
If you truly do not like coats or wearing them, you could also choose to wear a vest! A vest can also keep you very warm, but won’t cover your arms, so you may not feel uncomfortable or restrained in the same way you may feel when wearing a big coat. A vest can also be pretty stylish and keep you warm when wearing a sweatshirt underneath.

I also would wear sweatshirts, jackets, or sweaters under my coats to stay warm when in class, since some classrooms can become extremely cold in the winter. I also believe it’s crucial to invest in good sweatpants, jeans, or even thick leggings. With it being so cold, we have to be able to protect ourselves when walking in such cold environments. Also, if you enjoy wearing dresses or skirts like myself, then I believe it’s good to get thick tights to wear underneath. This allows us to stay warm while also being stylish.
Lastly, I would recommend getting scarves, hats, or earmuffs and gloves. I believe that sometimes people forget how crucial and helpful these pieces of clothing can be. These clothes allow us to stay warm overall and protect our necks, hands, and ears from the cold.
There are a few places near campus that have a selection of winter clothing items for a low price. The Walmart about 5 minutes away has plenty of winter clothing, and they also have a series of black friday sales going on at the moment. Also, there are a few thrift stores nearby, including New Life Thrift and Bargain Thrift Center. These are just a few of the many thrift stores nearby that have a wide variety of winter clothing. We can also receive a discount at many of these stores by providing our Arcadia ID.
