Art Events and Marketing Coordinator and Mural Artist David Guinn is featured in “The Artist’s Life,” a chronicle of over 60 expert artists’ stories, lives, growths, and inner workings. Written by Beth Leibson, the collection includes interviews with artists from several domains, including Oscar, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize winners.

Guinn was selected for this interview through his work with the Mural Arts program in Philadelphia and was recommended to the author by a colleague. He discussed his career as an artist, formative experiences that sent him down the path to becoming an artist, how his family saw his career, and the role art education plays in his life. He also discussed tensions created between needing to make a living and the desire to be expressive through artwork, as well as the obstacles of being an artist and a parent simultaneously.

“It feels great to be included in this collection,” Guinn said. “I think we all want to be listened to, to be heard. I feel grateful to the authors for being interested in listening to me and glad to have some of my experiences recorded in this book. Many modes of communication can be quite fleeting; a conversation on the phone, for instance. Words in a book feel long-lasting.”

By sharing his stories and challenges, Guinn provides a new perspective on artistry and working in the creative world.
