Biography
Dr. April Jackson-Washington is a dedicated advocate and professional with more than ten years of diversified experience in accessibility, counseling, and belonging for inclusive excellence for persons across the spectrum of identity.
Dr. April has proudly served in various roles across Student Affairs, Academic Affairs and Multicultural Affairs in higher education. Before joining higher education, Dr. April proudly worked at Maxwell-Gunter U.S. Air Force Base, the U.S. Air Force Military Academy, and Roosevelt Roads U.S. Naval Base in Puerto Rico. Her scholarly interests and civic engagement include applied economic theology, leadership studies, educational and community-based partnerships for economic development, and economic equity for under-resourced communities.
As a first-generation college graduate, Dr. April earned a B.S. in Biological Science with a concentration in Psychology from the prestigious HBCU Tuskegee University (Tuskegee, AL); a M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling with a focus on gender and mental health from The University of Memphis (Memphis, TN); and her doctorate with dissertation in Missional Leadership from Missio Seminary (Philadelphia, PA).
In her leisure, Dr. April enjoys reading, gardening, anything involving nature and being outdoors, teaching at her local community center, and cheering on the Eagles and Flyers with her two amazing children.
