Ameliia Tyncherova ’26 Thrives in Research, Leadership While Preparing for Graduate Study
When she arrived on campus four years ago, Ameliia Tyncherova ’26 dove headfirst into her studies and research with Arcadia’s Department of Psychology, earning her a role as a teaching assistant and publication opportunities.
Tyncherova recently presented her independent cross-cultural research at the Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) conference in Boston, Mass., and is preparing the work for publication. She also presented her senior thesis examining the effects of artificial intelligence on mental health interventions, which is also in progress for publication. Both projects have informed her search for a graduate Counseling program.

“I feel my department helped [prepare me] by providing some crucial positions, such as teaching assistant and research assistant, which graduate schools love to see,” Tyncherova said. “Also, I really appreciate all of the support of my research experiences and publications. Faculty helped me in figuring out the methods of these studies, analyzing data, and with professional academic writing for journals.”
She has already been accepted to Counseling programs at Adelphi University and Columbia University. Tyncherova is still weighing her options and interviewing with other institutions, including Kutztown University and William Paterson University.

This journey was not without its bumps, though.
“I had a lot of challenges being an international student starting my first year,” said Tyncherova, who came to Arcadia from her home country of Kyrgyzstan, along with her twin sister, Nelly. “Besides basic obstacles like language barrier, cultural differences, and adaptation, I also faced problems balancing work, school, and my well-being.
“I always had to step out of my comfort zone to demonstrate my potential and get the positions I have right now. As an introverted person, it was hard to get involved in all of the activities, but I was able to overcome myself to get to this point where I am right now.”
In addition to her role with the Department of Psychology, Tyncherova works as a social media assistant for the marketing team and a resident assistant.
