Michael A. Tevald, PT, PhD, is an Associate Professor and the Director of Entry-Level Programs.  Upon completing his entry-level physical therapy training, he practiced clinically at the National Rehabilitation Center and Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.  He pursued doctoral training in physiology at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, followed by post-doctoral training in Muscle Physiology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.  Prior to joining Arcadia University, Dr. Tevald was on faculty at the University of Toledo. Dr. Tevald’s research focuses on the alterations in muscle that accompany aging and the chronic diseases associated with aging.  Currently, he is collaborating with the Lung Transplant Team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania to study the acute impact of lung transplantation on skeletal muscle quantity, quality, and function.  Previously, he studied the impact of heart failure on oxygen transport in the skeletal muscle microcirculation, the muscle fatigue and energetics in aging, the role of core muscle function in balance in older adults, and muscle power in older adults with knee osteoarthritis.  His work has been supported by the American Heart Association and the Foundation for Physical Therapy. Dr. Tevald is a member of the Research, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary, and Acute Care Academies of the APTA.  He is currently the Treasurer of the Academy of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy.
