Applying for Preview
Who is eligible to apply to Preview the World?
Preview the World courses are open to students from all majors and are designed to connect your personal, cultural and/or academic interests with real-world global experiences.
Full-time, matriculated first-year and new transfer students are eligible to apply and will participate in the Spring following their first semester.
To ensure you’re fully prepared for this immersive experience, you must remain in good disciplinary standing and be successfully passing your Preview course prior to departure.
How do I apply for Preview the World? What is the deadline?
Preview the World applications open shortly after the Study Abroad Fair in mid-September. Current Arcadia students should monitor their Arcadia email for exact deadlines and detailed instructions. When you are ready to apply, follow these steps:
Step 1: Choose your top courses
There are so many amazing options to choose from! Students are encouraged to choose their top 4 options from the current list. To help you decide, attend the Study Abroad Fair, talk with instructors or past students, and review the course descriptions to see what excites you most.
Step 2: Initial Application with Course Preferences
Log in to your MyKnight portal and select “My Global Opportunities” from the top navigation bar. Complete the initial application questions, including ranking your top four course preferences and writing a brief personal statement explaining your interest in your preferred course.
Step 3: Submit your Travel Fee (if applicable) Passport, and Wellness Form
After submitting the initial form, you will be directed to the Arcadia Abroad Portal to upload your passport and complete a required wellness form. Checklist items may take up to one hour to appear in the portal after submission. You will submit the Preview travel fee (if applicable) in your Self Service account.
Applications are due 10 days after they open (timing varies each year based on the academic calendar and Study Abroad Fair). All three checklist items must be completed by November 1. If you have questions or need assistance, contact globalengagement@arcadia.edu.
Frequently Asked Questions
Program Overview
What does the Preview the World experience look like?
Preview the World kicks off in January alongside your other courses. You’ll meet once a week to learn about your destination, explore course content, build community, and get ready for your trip. You’ll also complete assignments that connect classroom learning to your travel experience.
During Spring Break in March, you’ll fly out with your group, settle in, enjoy a welcome meal, and spend the week on excursions, cultural visits, and have some free time to explore. Your instructor will share a detailed itinerary and answer questions before and during the trip.
Back on campus, the course wraps up with a few final sessions and a showcase at Global Expo. And if the experience sparks a love for travel, study abroad advisors can help you plan your next adventure!
When will I know my Preview placement?
Applications will be reviewed after submission in September. Your placement will be sent in mid-October. Please keep an eye out for the letter in your email!
If you’re waitlisted, please continue to work on your checklist items and we’ll be in touch when a spot becomes available.
Do I earn credit for Preview the World?
Yes. Preview the World is a 2-credit elective course.
What if I can no longer participate in Preview the World?
We understand that circumstances can change. If you are considering withdrawing from Preview the World, please consult with Civic & Global Engagement as soon as possible to review your options and next steps.
Students who withdraw before December 1 are eligible for a refund of the Preview travel fee. After December 1, the fee becomes non-refundable, and students may be responsible for additional non-recoverable expenses incurred on their behalf. Students removed from the program for academic or disciplinary reasons are not eligible for refunds.
