Dedicated Alumna and Philanthropist: Kate McLean ‘66
Kate McLean, a member of the Class of 1966, has a remarkable story marked by resilience and determination. Despite facing barriers as a woman pursuing her ambitions—whether it was her aspiration to be a veterinarian, desire to attend law school, or ultimately obtaining her MBA—Kate refused to let societal expectations dictate her life path. She graduated from Beaver College in 1966 and has dedicated her career to nonprofit work since 1971.
As the executive director of Interface Children Family Services for 18 years, Kate played a pivotal role in establishing one of Ventura County’s most comprehensive social services agencies for families and children. She later founded the Center for Nonprofit Leadership, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2025. Her initiatives, such as the Women’s Legacy Fund and the Civic Alliance of Ventura County, have set benchmark programs for community foundations.
Kate’s upbringing was deeply influenced by her parents, who instilled a strong sense of community service in her. Her time at Beaver College further ignited her passion for helping others. With a major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology, she credits mentors like Dr. Cameron and Dr. Johnson for their guidance and for fostering her intellectual curiosity. The engaging environment of small class sizes allowed her to thrive in her studies and field placement internships, experiences she describes as transformative. This lasting impact is a key reason she continues to support her Alma Mater financially.
In a show of commitment to the next generation, Kate was the first alumna to contribute to The Fund for Arcadia in the new fiscal year (June 1, 2025 – May 31, 2026), supporting incoming and returning classes. She looks forward to celebrating her 60th Reunion from Beaver College during Alumni Reunion Weekend on April 24 & 25, 2026, eager to connect with others dedicated to personal and communal improvement.
