Arcadia finishes the 2012 season having recorded a 19-21 overall record.  Seniors Lindsey Henchinski ’12, Erin Wojceiszyn ’12, Amy Johnson ’12, Kelsey Roberts ’12 and Erin Ficca ’12 were recognized during today’s doubleheader for their contributions to the program during their years with the team. During their time with the program, Arcadia has notched 84 victories and competed for for two Commonwealth Championships.  Roberts, who got today’s game one start, finishes with 31 wins in her four-year career with 205 batters strucking out against her thorugh over 390 innings worked.

Reliever Heather Buriak ’14 recorded the game one victory while Jess Wood ’13 threw a complete game as the Knight’s game two victor.

Senior day provided the spark for the class of 2012 to take the Knights out on a winning note. After Albright jumped ahead 1-0 after the top of the first, Arcadia countered to take a 2-1 lead when the first was over. A single from Wojceiszyn scored Henchinski and the senior made her way around the bags and scored on a single from Marissa Perez ’13 putting AU on top by one.

The Knights took a 3-1 lead in the third another run scored from Wojceiszyn off an RBI single from Helms.  And even after Albright went ahead 4-3 on a three-run fifth, Henchinski scored on another RBI single from Wojceiszyn to lock the game back up at 4’s.

The Lions would not go quietly however and with a two-run single to center field, Albright found themselves back on top by two, 6-4 when the top of the sixth was over.

After wiping away and chance for Albright to increase their lead with a one-two-three top of the seventh, Arcadia caught a break in their final at-bat, with an infield error by the Lions, picking up an unearned score allowing the Lions a one-run lead.  Johnson came through with a single to the gap in left that brought Helms to home plate to tie the game.  Fitting, the Knight’s senior first baseman would be brought home as the eventual game-winning tally off a single through the left side from Amanda Tomasheck ’14.

Arcadia’s senior class came through for the Knights in the nightcap, getting involved in the team’s game-deciding three -run fourth inning after a sac fly from Buriak in the second inning gave AU the early 1-0 lead.

Johnson led off the fourth on a single down the left field line and Corrin Showalter followed with a hit to right field.  An Albright error at the shortstop position caused Johnson to take home plate and moved Showalter to third giving AU a 2-0 lead.  Tomasheck made it 3-0 Knights on a single up the middle.  Henchinski pulled a sinlge through the left side to load the bases forcing the Lions to make a pitching change.  It only led to another Arcadia rip through the right side for Wojceiszyn, credited with the RBI on Buriak’s score and a 4-0 Arcadia advantage.  The Knights nearly made it a five run game but a bases-loaded fielder’s choice just forced the out at home and Albright got of the frame on the next out.

The Lions would get a pair of RBI singles in the top of the seventh but Arcadia allowed no more runs to score and hang on for the 4-2 victory and the series sweep to end the season.
