In January, Dr. Hilary Parsons Dick, Assistant Professor of International Studies, will present her work as part of events at the University of Chicago and Northwestern University. At the University of Chicago, she will participate in an invited Faculty Workshop called “Discourse in the Balance: Rescaling the Anthropological Imaginary,” where she will present an in-progress chapter of her book Words of Passage: Discourse and the Imagined Lives of Mexican Migrants. Workshop participants include some of the luminaries in her field of expertise, Linguistic Anthropology. At Northwestern University, she will give a lecture on working-class critiques of state-endorsed national imaginings in Mexico, titled “A Tale of Two Mexicos—Diaspora and the Failure of Progress.” She was invited to give the lecture as part of Northwestern University’s Anthropology Department Colloquium Series.
