Preview Photo Contest: Pick Your Best Pics

By Purnell T. Cropper | March 17, 2014

Promenading in the heart of Morocco, mastering (or enthusiastically butchering) Latin dance moves in Costa Rica, and braving Dracula’s lair in Romania are just a few of the experiences during Preview that beg to be shared.

This year, you’ll have two opportunities to tell your stories with brilliant color, vivid textures, and gripping perspectives through photographs: the 2014 Preview Photo Contest and Signpost, a Preview photography exhibition.

Preview Photo Contest

This year’s contest gives students the chance to win prizes and have their photographs published online and possibly in an Arcadia brochure. The deadline to submit photographs is April 1, 2014.

The contest has three themes:

 • Culture: Capture a moment in which you’re engaging in the culture, making new friends, or discovering a part of the world you never knew existed.
 • Perspective: Express your creativity by uniquely capturing yourself or friends in your new host country.
 • Discovery: What did you learn? Show a learning moment in a photo.

Be sure to include your full name, class year, major, Preview location, and a caption for each picture. There is no limit to the amount of photos you may upload, and you are encouraged to submit your highest resolution shots. All photographs submitted may be used to promote programs worldwide.

Prizes include:

 • Grand Prize (2): Flight worth $800 courtesy of Student Universe
 • Runners up (3): $100 gift certificate
 • Honorable Mention (5): Arcadia gear

In addition, all participants will receive a special gift at the Global Expo, where winners will be announced. The Global Expo takes place on Friday, April 4, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Commons.

Signpost

Arcadia’s Art Research Collaboration (ARC) Exhibition Program is seeking Preview photographs for Signpost, an exhibit planned to begin in late March in the Commons Great Room Lobby. Students are asked to document signage posted by businesses, advertisers, and local governments that evokes the feel of wherever it is you are traveling. Submit anything from a street-level advertisement for a Havana club to a government ordinance on a crowded Roman street.

Chosen photos will be printed, framed, and displayed in the exhibition. Once the exhibition ends, students will be presented with the framed photographs.

How to Submit to Signpost

Students are asked to submit files that are at least 3000 x 2000 resolution and 8 MP. Email photos to ArcExhibitions@arcadia.edu (limit: 25 MB per email)The deadline for submissions is March 23 at midnight.

Students will be notified of their inclusion by Friday, March 28, at 5 p.m.
