Students Experience International Business without Traveling

On Sept. 17, Arcadia University’s School of Global Business welcomed The World Trade Center of Greater Philadelphia (WTCGP) to its campus as part of Pennsylvania International Week. Authorized Trade Representatives from around the world, representing over 60 countries, met with Philadelphia regional business owners who want to expand into international markets. The meetings took place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Commons Great Room. This is the first year that students were invited to sit in on these meetings to get a first-hand glimpse of how business enters global markets. The event also served as a great networking opportunity for Arcadia students. The ability to sit-in on business transactions between industry trade representatives (ITR’s) and business owners enabled students to gain their own motivation to pursue entrepreneurship opportunities. Shaina Pierce, a junior at Arcadia with a major in communications and minors in psychology and Spanish, was one of the students in attendance. She observed a meeting between a United Arab Emirates correspondent and a local business owner and commented that the event was a “phenomenal resource for all students regardless of their major or classification. It gives a real life preview into the world of international business, and seeing how globalization affects us all is something that anyone could potentially benefit from.” For more information, contact The School of Global Business or Event Facilitator Danielle Martin at martind@arcadia.edu.
