Donate Your Prom Dress or Used Shoes to Make a Difference

By Caitlin Burns | February 9, 2016

The Community and Civic Engagement Center (CCEC) has two opportunities for you to contribute your gently used shoes and prom wear for people in need.

First, from now until March 1, donate your gently used prom dresses, formal, and semi-formal wear, which will be resold at a community dress sale in March. Donations can be dropped off at the CCEC office at 2005 Church Road.

Second, CCEC is collecting shoes in an on-going collection effort to benefit BetterShelter.org, an organization whose mission is to build safe, temporary housing for refugees worldwide. Shoe donations may be dropped off at CCEC or be placed in any of the ShoeRecycling boxes that are placed on campus.

Footwear that can be recycled are: gently worn and/or reusable men, women, and children’s shoes; sneakers and athletic shoes; sandals and casual shoes; heels, dress shoes, and loafers; and work boots and shoes. Shoes that are severely damaged or contain mildew cannot be accepted, along with specialty items such as snow and ski boots, flip flops, roller blades, and ice skates.
