Arcadia Hosts Events Throughout Public Health Week

The College of Health Sciences, Department of Public Health, and Public Health Student Society are hosting the following events to promote public health awareness, local charities, and stress relief programs during National Public Health Week.

Thursday, March 30 to Friday, April 7

Social Media Competition: What Does Public Health Mean to You?

Take a picture that shows what public health means to you and your community and post it to Arcadia’s Community & Global Public Health Facebook page between March 30 and April 7. Participants will be entered into a raffle to win prizes.

Monday, April 3

Crafting for a Cause: Easton Cafe, 4 to 7 p.m.

Help families facing crisis in your local community by making no-sew crafts to help babies stay warm and lift the spirits of mothers in need. All supplies will be provided. Community members can also contribute donations including kitchen items, cleaning products, office supplies, and gift certificates outside Brubaker 216. The charity drive runs from Monday, April 3 until Mother’s Day, May 14.

Tuesday, April 4

U.S. DHHS/HRSA Federal Grants Workshop: Great Room, 9 to 11 a.m.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Region III–Philadelphia Regional Office, will present key steps and resources for nonprofit leaders, community stakeholders, students, faculty, and staff who are seeking federal grants. Topics will include:

  • Understanding DHHS National and Regional Offices
  • Identifying federal grant opportunities (Services, Research, Programming & Education)
  • Navigating the federal grant application process
  • Accessing technical assistance resources
  • Collaborating within and across institutions/organizations for funding
  • Identifying potential collaborators in the region via DHHS

Stress Release Mindfulness: Kuch Center Aerobics Room, 5 to 6 p.m.

Led by Cynthia Rutherford from Counseling Services, this workshop will teach the basics of mindfulness, highlighting ways to incorporate simple exercises into your daily routine to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

Wednesday, April 5

Alcohol Awareness: University Commons Chat, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Public Safety, Arcadia’s Alcohol and Other Drugs program, and the Haven program from Drexel University will offer trivia, games, and giveaways centered around safe drinking and the risks of alcohol.

Scavenger Hunt: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Get outside, win prizes, and discover all the ways to be healthy on Arcadia’s campus. The scavenger hunt will take participants across the campus with a digital component to track progress. Check in at their Facebook page.

Film Screening: Before the Flood: Brubaker 201, 5 to 7 p.m.

From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Fisher Stevens and Academy Award®-winning actor, environmental activist, and U.N. Messenger of Peace Leonardo DiCaprio, Before the Flood details dramatic changes now occurring around the world due to climate change, as well as the actions we can take to prevent the disruption of life on our planet.
