Jaisy B. Omollo is a Pennsylvania resident and New Jersey native. Raised in the United States by her Kenyan parents, Jaisy is a product of parents who migrated to the United States in search of better opportunities for themselves and their children. At a young age, Jaisy observed a world that was unjust through her family and her own experiences. “I watched injustice prevail in many areas of my life. I have hope for the idea for the many beloved communities that we call our own. I dream to contribute to the betterment of my community.”
In 2014, Jaisy attended La Salle University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Political Science. During her time at La Salle University, she was recognized as a student leader not only at La Salle but also in its surrounding community. She served as the Vice President of the African American Student League, Senator of Student Government, a student member of the President's Advisory Board, and many other roles both on and off campus. In her third year in college, she was offered an opportunity to work for the campaign of Pennsylvania’s then Attorney General, Josh Shapiro. Following her tenure in the Office of Attorney General, she was offered the opportunity to serve as a legislative intern in the Office of Councilwoman Cindy Bass.
Following her degree, she continued her efforts as a young political scientist through her candidacy with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF). Through CBC, she was selected to work on Capitol Hill in the Office of the legendary civil rights leader, Congressman John Lewis. Through this experience, she built relationships with the grandson of Nelson Mandela as well as the staff for Impact Strategies by Angela Rye, for whom she volunteered following her time on the Hill.
Jaisy moved back to Pennsylvania to work as an organizer with the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. This experience led her to the realization that injustice was not a partisan issue so she left to start her new journey as a Community Organizer at POWER Interfaith, the largest faith-based grassroots organization in the State of Pennsylvania. As a community organizer with POWER, she contributed to policy change across the nation. She led community groups that supported both local and statewide efforts, designed to respond to injustices faced every day.
Currently, Jaisy works as the Assistant Director at the Civic & Local Engagement Division. She acts as a liaison between the community and supports students who are building professional and academic careers. She also co-instructs a class that teaches students that roles exist for everyone in the fight for justice. She hopes to continually develop in her role and directly impact the fight against injustice locally, nationally, and globally.
