Dr. Sam Liu graduated from University of Oxford's Engineering Science program, focusing on biomedical engineering before pursuing a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, focusing on sports biomechanics. Dr. Liu leverages fundamental mechanics principles to understand task-oriented well-practiced movements that range from pitching in baseball to jumping in basketball to older adults navigating turns under varied contexts. Dr. Liu's research interests include biomechanical analysis of whole-body movements in a variety of contexts to understanding how sub-system dynamics such as strength, range of motion, training history, and coordination patterns influence movement strategies at the whole-body level. Previously, Dr. Liu had published research on impulse-momentum regulation during baseball pitching in both professional and high school athletes and how impulse generation and momentum regulation influence two-foot running jump takeoff strategies and jump height in jumps with and without a basketball; he presented this research in national and international conferences. Moving forward, Dr. Liu's excited to continue to conduct research studying movement biomechanics in sports-specific movements while leveraging the power of sport to continue to engage in outreach, scientific communication, and teaching activities.
