Equipped with a B.A. in English and a minor in professional writing, Jennifer Pacheco ’10 is taking her academic skills and global understanding to the next level. She currently is earning a master’s degree in publishing at University College London.
Securing her first publishing internship as a junior in London, Pacheco quickly decided where to focus her post-graduate studies. She chose University College London after careful consideration of the level of academics and the course structure. Plus, she already was familiar with the city as she participated in Arcadia’s First Year Study Abroad Experience (FYSAE) in 2007.
Less than a year after FYSAE, she returned to study at King’s College London for the 2008-09 academic year.
“Without a doubt, both experiences helped prepare me for studying abroad again and helped me pick my future concentration in my graduate work,” she says. “Participating in FYSAE opened up the world to me. The opportunity to live abroad for a semester during my first year of college not only helped me realize that I could be self sufficient and independent, but also that I wanted the opportunity to travel and explore the world.”
At the outset of her college search, Pacheco was drawn to Arcadia’s intimate class size where she could experience one-on-one instruction and interaction with her professors and the greater community. In addition, she knew that traveling through Arcadia’s College of Global Studies would have a transformative affect on her life.
“If I hadn’t studied abroad I feel that I would be a completely different person and my path would have been altered considerably,” she says. “Studying at King’s College London, led me to the publishing industry. Although I had had considerable journalism experience prior to my junior year when I studied abroad, I secured my first publishing internship and that led me to where I am now.”
Interested in the editorial, rights management and publicity aspects of the industry, Pacheco plans to pursue a career in publishing upon graduation.
