Dr. Kalenda Eaton, associate professor of English and director of global learning, was an invited panelist at the 2014 UNCF/Mellon Programs conference in Atlanta, Ga. The focus of the conference was scholarship and activism in academic settings, and Eaton participated in the panel titled “Building on our Legacy of Scholarship and Activism: Best Practices in the Production, Recruitment, and Retention of Scholar-Activists.”
Dr. Eaton also presented her research on African Americans, literature, and the Great Plains at the 3rd International Conference on the American Literary West in Vitoria, Spain. Her paper, “To the West, My Brother, to the West: The Quest for a Black National Identity on the Great American Plains,” explores representations of nationalism and cross-border migration in Canadian western plains’ literature and history.
