Arcadia University’s Community and Civic Engagement Center (CCEC) hosted its annual Martin Luther King Day of Service Repurposing, eWaste, and Shredding event on Jan. 16. Over 100 volunteers and approximately 1,500 cars turned out for the collection and recycling event.

CCEC collected seven truckloads of donations for local organizations, including The Baby Bureau, Cradles to Crayons, SPCA, and Philadelphia Reads. The event also brought in 16 tons of recycled e-waste and 27.5 tons of shredded material. A total of 590 hours of service were contributed by 117 volunteers, consisting of undergraduate and graduate students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

The next major CCEC event is Alternative Spring Break, which is a service-oriented trip during spring break that will take volunteers to New Iberia, La., this year, in a collaboration with Habitat for Humanity and Envision da Berry.
