Dr. Samer Abboud, associate professor of Historical and Political Studies, was featured in a story by IRIN News on March 8 about the rebuilding of Syria. Dr. Abboud said it was unlikely that Syrian business executives would return under the current regime.
“We are at a point now [where the Syrian authorities] are trying to cultivate businesspeople to return, but a few years ago regime officials were calling for them to be blacklisted and forbidden from returning,” Dr. Abboud told IRIN. “Sure, things change, but there's no reason to believe that businesspeople would trust the regime.”
