This summer, Print Communications major Helen Armstrong ’18 presented “Supernatural at the Crossroads: Slash Shipping and Female” at Console-ing Passions, an international conference for feminist media studies. Her presentation explored why young women and girls show particular interest in slasher shipping– a term used to discuss interest in a same-sex fictional romance– with particular focus on the show Supernatural.

The conference, held at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC,  gave Armstrong the opportunity to network internationally with undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in the media and communications field.

“It was a good opportunity to meet other people who were interested in Media Studies, especially other undergrads, and to see everyone else’s research which gave me new ways to think about my own,” said Armstrong.
