Dr. Kathy Trainor, adjunct professor of Education, and Dr. Peggy Hickman, associate professor of Education, received a $10,000 Project MAX grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to purchase assistive technology and software for the School of Education.

The Project MAX grant is part of Pennsylvania’s initiative to incorporate evidence-based teaching for students with disabilities into pre-service teacher preparation programs. The technology Drs. Trainor and Hickman will purchase reflects the software and curricular material PreK-12 schools use for students with complex support needs.

Supported by the federal Office of Special Education Programs, Project MAX values meaningful assessment of educator skills, instruction geared toward individualized students needs, and rigorous curricula that engages students in unrestricted academic environments. The program is intended to provide all Pennsylvania students with access to general education curriculum that meets the state’s core standards.
