Arcadia Recognized by Casualty Actuarial Society for Commitment to Preparing Actuaries
Arcadia University has been named one of only 68 institutions to qualify for the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) University Recognition Program. This program recognizes academic institutions with a demonstrated commitment to preparing property and casualty actuaries through their educational offerings.
The CAS is the world’s only actuarial organization focused exclusively on property and casualty risks, serving over 10,000 members worldwide. It offers three levels of recognition for universities; Arcadia qualified for the Bronze Tier.
“It is an honor for Arcadia University’s Actuarial Science Program to be recognized at the Bronze Level by the Casualty Actuarial Society.” said Irina Pogrebivsky, assistant professor and director of Arcadia’s Actuarial Science program. “This achievement reflects the hard work and passion of our students, the guidance of our faculty, and the invaluable support of our alumni and industry partners. We are committed to building on this momentum by expanding opportunities for our students and strengthening our collaboration with CAS to prepare the next generation of leaders in the actuarial profession.”
Arcadia offers a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science within the Computer Science and Mathematics Department. Actuarial Science majors take courses that prepare them for four Society of Actuaries (SOA) preliminary exams and include all of the SOA’s Validation by Educational Experience topic areas. Arcadia’s Universities and Colleges with Actuarial Programs Advanced Curriculum (UCAP-AC) status provides Arcadia students with additional benefits, such as exam fee reimbursements and free study materials for some students. Students who decide not to pursue the actuarial exam track can pursue related fields such as statistical programming, teaching, and accounting.
Arcadia hosts an Actuarial Science Career Fair every year. Recent graduates have been hired by firms like Aon, WTW, Illumifin, MunichRe, and Independence Blue Cross.
For its CAS recognition, Arcadia will receive a set of benefits, including being featured on the official CAS University Recognition Program list on the CAS website.
