Arcadia University 2026 Week of Service Kicks Off Jan. 19

Arcadia University will celebrate and honor the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a variety of events on campus Jan. 19-23, 2026. Please check back often, as this list may be updated.

Monday, Jan. 19 – Sunday, Jan. 25: Winter Coat and Essentials Drive

The Belonging and Flourishing Council is running a Winter Coat and Essentials Drive and seeking new or gently used coats and winter accessories (hats, scarves, gloves, boots, etc.) to be donated and made available to our students and community members. There is a particular need for coats in extended sizes, so please include these if you are able. Coats and accessories may be dropped off at the Public Safety Office on the ground floor of Dilworth Hall. Please reach out to the Belonging and Flourishing Council at ibelong@arcadia.edu with any questions.

Monday, Jan. 19: Day of Service

Various Locations, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.

Help to beautify the Glenside campus and surrounding area by participating in a clean-up. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to sign up by Friday, Jan. 16, using the Google Form in the Jan. 14 email from Campus Life.

Tuesday, Jan. 20: Make Your Mark: A Night of Story, Art, and Action

Commons Great Room, 5-7 p.m.

Gather for a community event centered on storytelling, reflection, and action. Dr. Nathaniel Williams, CEO of ChildPromise, Inc., will share his journey “From Orphan to Nonprofit CEO” from 5-6 p.m., followed by a community mural experience and light food from 6-7 p.m. Add your handprint to a collective community art piece symbolizing grassroots action. The finished product will be revealed at Thursday’s event.

Tuesday, Jan. 20 – Friday, Jan. 23: Honoring Dr. King at Home Athletic Events

Kuch Alumni Gymnasium and Hatfield Ice Arena

Athletic teams that play home games will be selecting one of MLK’s Six Principles of Nonviolence they would like to highlight. The principle, along with a brief statement from the team on why they selected the principle, will be featured at the event, and handouts will be given out at all home events mentioning the principles each team selected.

Tuesday 1/20, 7 p.m. – Men’s Volleyball vs Saint Elizabeth University

Wednesday 1/21, 6 p.m. – Men’s Basketball vs Desales University

Friday 1/23, 6 p.m. – Women’s Ice Hockey vs King’s College

Friday 1/23, 7 p.m. – Men’s Volleyball vs New York University

Wednesday, Jan. 21: Advocacy in Action

Commons First Floor, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. 

Offices from across campus will staff tables for a hands-on, interactive experience filled with games, challenges, and creative activities that make advocacy, civic engagement, and social impact approachable, fun, and community-driven.

Thursday, Jan. 22: Compassion Café Open Mic Night

Commons Great Room, 4-6 p.m.

Close out MLK Week with an evening of reflection, creativity, and community. Stop by to listen to or share at an open mic, take part in guided conversation, and explore a gallery highlighting the art, service, and voices that shaped the week. Light refreshments will be available as we gather, reflect, and celebrate together.

Thursday, Jan. 22: Graduate Student Training: Navigating Power, Privilege, and Responsibility in Professional Spaces

Castle Dining Room, noon-2 p.m.

Civic & Global Engagement and Campus Life invite all graduate students to take part in a professional development opportunity designed to examine how power and privilege operate in everyday professional settings. Together with facilitator Dr. G. Christopher Hunt, Vice President and Dean for Equity and Inclusion at Moravian University and Program Coordinator for the Ed.D. in Transformational Leadership, we’ll work through real-world scenarios and develop practical strategies for recognizing inequity and responding with purpose — no matter your role or level of authority.
