Master of Science in Forensic Science (MSFS) alumna Lauren Hoopes ’24M, Biology alumna Nicole DeWald ’25, and MSFS Program Director and Associate Professor Dr. Fabio Oldoni co-authored the paper “Genetic data and population structure of 10 DIP-STR markers across four US population groups” in the International Journal of Legal Medicine.

Dr. Oldoni remarks that this work on DIP-STR genetic markers, which combines low mutation polymorphisms with high mutation short tandem repeat polymorphisms, adds further important population genetic data.

Distinct DIP-STR haplotype data can be used for predicting the biogeographic ancestry of the individuals that cluster within African American, European American, East Asian American, and Southwest Hispanic population groups.
