Evans Appointed Director of Public Safety at Arcadia

Ruth Evans, a longtime member of the Department of Public Safety at Lincoln University, has been named director of Public Safety at Arcadia University. Evans, who begins her position at Arcadia on Aug. 1, will lead efforts in facilitating and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all members of the Arcadia community. 

From 1999 to 2018, Evans served in a variety of roles in Lincoln’s Department of Public Safety. As director, Evans led the second-largest police force in Chester County, with 14 police officers, eight security officers, three sergeants, three corporals, a chief of police, and a program assistant. She also helped to prepare and manage the department’s $1.5 million budget, oversaw security coverage for an average of 35 major campus events annually, supervised criminal investigations and served as a special assistant in sexual assault cases, and worked closely with the Title IX Coordinator.  

In 2014, Evans served as vice president for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Law Enforcement Executives and Administrators (HBCU-LEEA). Prior to her work at Lincoln, Evans spent more than 10 years at SpectaGuard/AlliedBarton Security in King of Prussia, Pa., where she was responsible for the overall security operations of 21 high-rise buildings in Philadelphia. 

Evans is completing a master’s degree in Emergency Management at Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn.; she earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice at Ashworth College in Norcross, Ga. She also obtained Act 235 Certification in Lethal Weapons Training at Holy Family University in 2003.
