Knight to Know: Julianna Reidell ’25
Hometown: Jenkintown, Pa.
Major: English (Creative Writing) and French/Francophone Studies
Minor: Pan African Studies, Honors
Extracurriculars: I’ve served as Co-Editor in Chief of Quiddity (Arcadia’s undergraduate lit mag) for the past two years; worked as a Consultant at the Writing Center, a French Tutor at the LRN, and an editor on the staff of The Compass (Arcadia’s student-run scholarly journal)! This past year, I was also the scriptwriter for the Honors Program’s Murder Mystery Dinner Party performance/event.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m an avid reader and writer; I also enjoy dabbling in art, listening to music, and indulging my passion for French history in whatever way possible.
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
I received several awards at this year’s Honors Convocation, including the Excellence in Creative Writing Award and the Krug Family Award for Excellence in Modern Language Study. I’d been wistfully dreaming of winning these since my first year on campus, so it was truly so meaningful to receive that recognition from my professors after years of hard work.
Favorite Arcadia memory: I’ve got quite a few wonderful Arcadia memories, but writing this past year’s Murder Mystery script — and then working alongside a stupendous council, cast, and crew to help bring my story and my vision to life — was something I’d never experienced before. Writing is often a very solitary act, and sharing work is always intimidating, so the joy of watching my peers respond positively and passionately to the characters I’d created definitely touched my heart.
Post-grad plans: I applied in February to TAPIF (Teaching Assistant Program in France), which places American college graduates as teaching assistants in English classrooms across France. I’m still waiting for my response!
At this year’s Honors Convocation, Reidell received the Excellence in Creative Writing Award, the William Bracy Award for Community Engagement, and the Krug Family Award for Excellence in Modern Language Study.
