Knight to Know: Madi Lush ’25
Hometown: Glenside, Pa.
Major: Biology
Minor: Music
Extracurriculars: Outside of my classes, I’ve been the Society for Castle Restoration (SCR) treasurer since my sophomore year. I’ve been in the honors program since starting at Arcadia, and I finished up the program requirements last semester. I am also a student worker as the Music Department Assistant, helping to make sure students have their parts, transposing parts for different instruments when needed, and generally helping to prepare for concerts and other events. I am also sure to be there as a support for my peers if they need it!
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love spending time with my friends and family, especially pets, in my free time! On my own, I am often hiking and taking pictures of wildlife, writing music, or working in the ceramics studio.
What is your proudest accomplishment to date?
I think my proudest accomplishment to date has been completing my senior thesis project after researching bats on Arcadia’s campus for the past three years, as well as completing ceramic bat plaques to go along with my thesis for each species we found present—all nine residential bat species in Pennsylvania and one visiting species!
Favorite Arcadia memory: This is a tough question! I have so many favorite memories here. I’ve really loved making new friends over the years and getting to know my professors, too. I would say a few of my most favorite memories have been watching bats come out in the early fall in the woods by church road on campus (where bat audio recorders for my research and eventual thesis work were set up), office visits with professors including regular tea-time with my advisor, spending time with friends really anywhere on campus or travelling, getting to work with the chef and curators at the Philadelphia Museum of Art with my close-knit ceramics class, and making music with all my orchestra and jazz band buddies.
Post-grad plans: After graduating, I plan on working as a Veterinary Assistant at Hopewell Veterinary Hospital in Jenkintown. I work there already as part of the kennel staff and will start training this summer to be a vet assistant! I may also take some extra classes with UPenn’s Post-Baccalaureate program starting in the fall, and am hoping to work seasonally as a wildlife population biologist one day, in addition to working at Hopewell. I am lucky enough to be a part of the GFS class Ireland: Inspired by the View, and will be travelling to the Burren in Ireland with that class after graduating! I will also be returning to the Burren College of Art later this summer to take an ecology/art class with Maryann Worrell.
