Samantha Rock ’20M: From Arcadia to Her Dream Job

By Ryan Hiemenz '23 | March 6, 2023

After earning her Master of Arts in Counseling at Arcadia University in 2020, Samantha Rock began work as a clinical therapist and team supervisor working with adolescents for Creative Healing. The teen support center, which specializes in offering individual and group treatment for teens, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy and LGBTQ+ Affirming Care, blends evidence-based practices with expressive arts and creativity.

“Arcadia helped me find my dream job,” said Rock. “The Counseling program truly helped me gain confidence and find my niche working with teens.”

In 2015, Rock graduated from Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation and began working at a Philadelphia-based residential mental health facility. She quickly fell in love with her work and wanted to further her education, while also adding to her skillset in the field.

“I started looking into local programs, and Arcadia’s program checked off all my boxes,” Rock explained. “I was so impressed by the program, the ability to have concentrations, and the multicultural focus. The program aligned with my values and what I wanted out of a master’s-level education, and I loved the flexibility that it offered. I was able to work full time and do the program part time, which really met my needs as a student.”

Rock resides at the Jersey Shore with her husband, infant son, and dog. She is enjoying the transition back to work and finding the new meaning of work-life balance.
